ABOUT CONSIGNMENT

Consignment shops have been around for more than 60 years - but have only recently gained popularity and have quickly become a widely accepted shopping alternative for many American consumers - from all income levels. (Jacqueline Kennedy used to consign her clothing at a shop in New York City!)

For years we have purchased used cars and lived in homes previously occupied by others. More and more people are now reaping the benefits of pre-owned apparel.

Americans have long recognized the value of recycling. Levi Strauss recycled tent material during the California gold rush to produce sturdy work pants and started the world-wide love affair with jeans. American women recycled fabric scraps to create beautiful quilts that have become cherished heirlooms and decorator comforters. Americans have always loved fashion - now there is a way to be fashionable while recycling!!

CONSIGNMENT GUIDELINES

At Act II we accept new and gently used:

  1. Designer & Better Label Ladies' apparel, that is
  2. Current Style (not older than a year or two)
  3. In Season*,
  4. In Excellent Condition, and brought in
  5. On Hangers.
*February 1...start accepting spring items
March 1...start accepting summer items (shorts, capri pants, sandals)
August 1...start accepting fall items
September 1...start accepting winter items (sweaters, wool items, coats, boots)

Our customers are particular, so we are very selective when accepting consignments. We offer a marketplace for your "no longer needed" apparel, jewelry, shoes, handbags, and accessories - those fashion mistakes, wrong colors, wrong sizes, and gifts that just aren't your style!! Check to be sure that all buttons, hooks, and snaps are in place and secure, and that zippers zip. Acceptable clothing will be free from spots, rips, pulls, pilling, odors, etc., and pressed if necessary. Remember, the better the items look - the better they will sell! Please remove any dry cleaning tags with your name, as we keep the identity of our consignors private. If you have new items with tags - leave the tags on. We will selectively accept what we feel will sell. We know designer labels and our expertise in selecting marketable items and pricing accordingly has been well developed over the last 18 years. You may bring items in any time during store hours. It is not necessary to have an appointment, however, if you have more than 50 items we would appreciate a courtesy call in advance. Our inventory is computerized and after the articles sell, the consignor receives 40%. You may pick up your money after the items sell - there is no waiting period.

Act II consignors are assured of maximum merchandising efforts as evidenced by our television, radio, website, and newspaper advertising as well as our high traffic location. In addition, we offer the convenience of major credit and debit cards, checks and cash as well as lay-a-way.

In addition to consignment, we do purchase some merchandise outright by appointment only. Generally, you will receive more money by consigning. However, if you wish to sell items outright, please call to set up an appointment.
